Elizabeth Mary Ann inherited a fortune from her grandfather. Her father, Lewis married secondly her second cousin, Sarah Eliza Nunn who hence became her step-mother. It is possible that Frederic was attracted by her fortune which he inherited only 4 years after their marriage.
