Settled at Eye, Suffolk, where he was a brewer and all his children were born. Later lived at Carlton Rookery, Saxmundham, Suffolk, and Bredfield House where he died a few days after catching a cold at market. He is remembered at Bredfield as "an active, alert, upright figure in frilled shirt and black stock". He is said to have speculated in Clover seed and Coprolite and to have tried to grow Chicory and Flax. He and his wife are commemorated in a SGW on the south side of the chancel in Bredfield Church.
