Margery Freda PARKIN

#554, Margery Freda PARKIN

Born 1902 in St Mark's Vicarage, Hull
Died 1979 in Bristol
Occupation Headteacher
Education Education details unknown but she seems almost over qualified for a primary school head.
Father Maurice PARKIN (15 Mar 1859 - 07 Feb 1912)
Mother Laura Annie HAMMOND (1868 - 1938)

Margery was typical of the old brigade of school Heads.  She was well educated, erudite, versed in the classics and a lover of correctly used and beautiful English Language.  She had a slightly superior and naughty streak typified by her claim that listening to sermons in church did not extend her so she would only attend if they allowed her to knit whilst listening.  She smoked like a chimney (she died of emphysema), remained single and claimed to have had more men that her nephews had hot dinners.  Quite a character!

Her school was in George Street, Hemel Hempstead and she occupied School House, George St. Hemel Hempstead, Herts.  Boxmore 638.  It is thought that it was a primary school that she headed - there certainly was, and still is, a vibrant primary school in George St.
