Father Lawrence Nicholas Dyer HAMMOND (1833 - 1908)
Mother Mary Anne ANLEY (27 Feb 1833 - 1923)

Laura, as was often the case with vicar's wives, was an ardent supporter of the Mothers' Union, an Anglian organisation established in 1876, based on the unconditional love of mothers.  It was created to support mothers of all kinds in bringing up their children.  Over time, groups were established around the nation forging strong links with local people and the Anglican Church.  As well as child welfare, it encouraged the habit of thinking about those religious convictions on which life was based.

As it happens 2026 is its 150th anniversary.

She was also, unusually for her time, a competent public speaker with a talent for recitation.

The 1901 census shows Maurice 45, head; Laura A 32, wife, Reginald 7 months, son; Betsy Wilson 43, sister; Effie Wilson, niece 21; Winifred Wilson niece 18; Walter R Pym 44 visitor; Lucy A Pym 39 visitor; Emily Tebb 25 servant;& Maud Kelsey 20 visitor
