In the 1881 census George is shown as a farmer's son living at home. By 1901 he was a farm bailiff and in 1911 he was a widower living with a housekeeper and worked as a clerk in a brewery. He was 'of Raydon, Suffolk' at time of eldest son's marriage (1920) and we know that he remarried in 1921.
