Educated initially at Rossall and Malvern College he was admitted to Pembroke College, Cambridge on 21st September 1877 to read Theology and took his BA in 1881 and MA in 1893. He was ordained Deacon in 1881 and Priest in 1882 in Durham.

Curate of Gt Malvern, 1906.

At the time Ruth's marriage Francis was stated to be Chaplain to the Indian Government.
