Bernard assumed by Deed Poll the additional surname of Morley. He was educated at Old Trafford School and the Royal Liverpool Institute.

Between 1896-1901, he set up the Morley Fletcher Wave Power System Ltd and carried out experiments at Dover; Consulting Engineer of Victoria Street, London and Director of Andrew Handyside and Co. Ltd. (1905 Directory of Directors); Christian Science Healer and Captain of the 3rd North Staffordshire Regiment.

Bernard and and his first wife, Queenie had a daughter and 2 sons.
