Gertrude came from an aristocratic New Hampshire family. They were Daughters of the American Revolution which has published their family history. She travelled to England in 1926 where her good looks and fine singing voice caused a stir. Whilst there she met Percival Griffith(s?) who she married as her first husband in Portsmouth NH. We do not know how she met Francis.
