#9396, Simon Mark ARTHUR

Matthew Arthur (1852-1928), 1st Baronet (10th January 1903) was created Baron Glenarthur in 1918.  He was succeeded by (James) Cecil Arthur, 2nd Baron (1883-1942) in 1928 who was in turn succeeded by Matthew Arthur, 3rd Baron Arthur (1909-1976) in 1942.  Next came the present holder Simon Mark Arthur, born 1944 who inherited in 1976.  The heir apparent is his only son the Hon. Edward Alexander Arthur, born 1973.

Sir Simon was commissioned into the 10th Royal Hussars, 1963-75 being promoted Captain in 1970 and Major in 1973.  He was ADC to the High Commissioner of Aden 1964-65 and served in the TA 1976-80.  He was  Captain with British Airways Helicopters 1976-1982 and held many company directorships and consultancies. Following the House of Lords Act in 1999 he was elected a representative hereditary peer.

He has held and is holding dozens of national and international public service posts being an excellent example of exactly why hereditary peers have so much to offer in the second chamber.

Simon and Susan have 2 children, Edward Alexander born 9th April 1973 (educated at Eton) and Emily Victoria born 29th October 1975 (BSc at Glasgow University)
