Robert was a very wealthy land owner and businessman in NE Essex. Elizabeth was his only child and heiress, but she died before her father so Elizabeth Mary Ann inherited.

Robert's father was Joseph Nunn (1718-1782) who married in 1741 Mary Gardner (1722-1777) daughter of Henry Gardner who was born about 1695.
