Only son of Francis John Kinchin Smith of London, SW7.
Education: Westminster (Kings School); Christ Church, Oxford (Scholar, 1st Class Hons. Modern History; President of the Oxford Union, 1941).
Michael Kinchin Smith served with the Coldstream Guards in the Italian Campaign (Captain; Mentioned in Despatches); with the BBC, 1950-78; Controller, Staff Administration, 1967-76; Lay Assistant to the Archbishop of Canterbury, 1979-84; Archbishops' Secretary for Appointments, and Secretary, Crown Appointments Commission, 1984-87; from 1991, Chairman, Diocesan Trustees (Oxford) Ltd.
Following his death in hospital in 2002, a Memorial Service was held at Bloxham Parish Church on 22 03 2003.
