Percy and Avis were 1st cousins, both being grandchildren of Maximilian Simon. Percy was the son of the chief medical officer for Singapore who was the nephew of Sir John Simon, the first medical officer for the City of London, one of the great Victorian reformers. (This is not the Sir John Simon, the 20th Century economist)
