Rodger was educated at Brentwood School and Brasenose College, Oxford. He was called to the Bar, Middle Temple, in 1963, became a Recorder of the Crown Court in 1980 and was appointed QC in 1982. He has been the Legal Member of Mental Health Review Tribunals since 1983 and has been a High Court Judge since 1993. He was appointed a judge of the Employment Appeals Tribunal in 1994.
