Dr Kent played Rugby Union for Rosslyn Park and England and won four Blues playing for Oxford including one as Captain in 1974. He played his early club rugby at Bridgewater and Albion Rugby Club, where he was an enthusiastic member until his death, and played at senior level for Rosslyn Park, appearing in the final of the John Player Cup at Twickenham in 1976 where they lost 23-14 to Gosforth. He made his England debut against Scotland in 1977 in which he scored a try. He made four more appearances at international level before dropping out due to his medical workload. He was a keen squash player and horseman and collapsed and died after riding out with a group of friends on Dartmoor. He enjoyed good health and was at the England match against Scotland the previous Saturday with his son Joseph.
