Robert Knipe is said to be a direct descendant of Christopher Knipe of London who may be the son of James Knipe of Warton, Lancs, said to be of Manchester and Liverpool. Arms were granted to Christopher Knipe by Sir W Segar, Garter, 10th November 1616 which were inherited by Robert Knipe who assumed them quartered with his own.
His place and exact date of birth are unknown but he died on 6th October 1801 and was buried on 11th October 1801. His wife, Alice predeceased him and they are both buried with their daughter, Jane at St. Margaret's, Ipswich (Memorial ID 163342313)

All the Household Furniture, Plate, Linen, China, Books &c. of ROBERT KNIPE, Esq. deceased, at his late dwelling-house at Witnesham near Ipswich; consisting of bedsteads, with furnitures and exceedingly good bedding, mahogany bureau and bookcase, pair mahogany dining tables, card and Pembroke tables, chests of drawers, chairs, 8 day clock, double key'd harpsicord; kitchen furniture, and dairy utensils; about 100oz. of useful plate, good table and bed linen, china, books and glass.
