Sarah, Samuel's first wife was the daughter of Samuel Gurney and Sarah Lawrence. They had one son and three daughters: Sarah born in Old Bond St. London,19th July 1777; Hannah born in Old Bond St. 18th August 1779; Grizell born Old Bond St. 7th September 1781 and Samuel.
She was a member of Gracechurch Street Quaker Meeting.
