Thomas was articled to Stark & Rowntree in Glasgow in 1892. He moved to the London office of Edward Burgess in 1897, becoming a Clerk of Works in Sheffield the following year and was working for Edward Mountford in a similar capacity the year after that. He passed his qualifying exams from the South Kensington office of Charles John Ferguson in 1902 and was admitted ARIBA on 1st December that year. By 1911 Gregson had emigrated east and joined the firm of C F Stevens & Co which had offices in Bombay and Columbo, being taken into partnership in or before 1915. His final job in India seems to have been as a partner in Gregson, Batley & King also in Bombay. In 1939 he was an architect in Whitby, Yorkshire.
Thomas's father was Joseph Gregson born 1840 in Hull, Yorkshire who died in 1920 in York, Yorkshire and his mother was Sarah Ellen Cooper born 1841 in Islington, London who died in 1913 also in Yorkshire. They had married in Pancras, London in 1868.
Thomas died on 23rd September 1957, with probate granted on 10th January 1958.
