Ludvig settled in Kenya in 1912 and started buying up tracts of land for farming. On the outbreak of war he enlisted in the East African Ordinance Department and later transferred to the King's African Rifles. Unfortunately during combat he died of wounds. He left his property and commercial interests to his brother Hermann. Probate was granted in London on 25th May 1917.
