Amelia was under age at the time of her marriage in 1808 so her birth date is uncertain but around 1791/92. She had 13 children, one of whom died in infancy and a son who probably died as a teenager. Her father was the Revd. Dr. Thomas Brooke Clarke (1757-1833) who was Auditor to the Royal Naval Asylum and her mother was Helen Johnson (1766?-1835), youngest daughter of Thomas Johnson, of Dublin (he died 1796) whose brothers were notable in judicial and parliamentary circles. At the time of her marriage the Clarkes were resident at Greenwich Park.
