The Barlees were called Buckle until they changed their name in 1811. Story has it that the Barlee name was in danger of dying out so Buckles took it on and were rewarded with a considerable fortune. William's father was William Buckle and his mother was Anne Nelson.
In addition to their son Frederick the following children were born to this marriage between 1823/4 and1845: Margaret C; William Henry; Grace; Emily; John Buckle; Alfred; George; Jane Mary; Herbert; Edith Sophia; Hobart Ayton; Arthur Lee; Mary Anne Frederica; Reginald.
