Ronald was the son of George Milton Lilburne born 1902 in New Zealand who died 4th October 1971 also in New Zealand and Rhoda Lester Wilson born 1911 in New Zealand who died on 5th May 1993 in New Zealand. They had married in 1930 in New Zealand and had 3 children.

Ronald was a teacher until 1994 when he set up Lilburne Holdings, New Zealand. His two children joined him in 2002 as directors. David Milton ceased to be a director on 9th Dec. 2011 leaving Linda Robyn as the sole director in 2018.
