The family home was Mells Manor near Frome, Somerset, a small Elizabethan manor house which had come into the family after the Dissolution of the Monasteries in 1537. This family originated the Little Jack Horner...nursery rhyme. The house was burnt down in 1917 and rebuilt by Sir Edwin Lutyens.
