This Thomas helped his father in the family brewing business particularly its move to the Cliff. The family lived at the Cliff and worshipped at St Clement's. Thomas' tombstone, preserved inside the church describes him as a Common Brewer. Far from being derogatory this identified him as being forward thinking in selling his beer to others in addition to that sold for consumption in his own premises. His will, preserved in the National Archives was dated 5th April 1767 and proved 27th May 1767, a month after his death, mentions his wife Sarah and children, Thomas, John, William and Mary.
