Educated at Marlborough College (C3), 1917-1921. Commissioned into the Royal Marines in 1942, rising to the rank of Captain and served until 1946. First marriage was dissolved and he met his second wife in Germany at the end of the war. They went to British Honduras where they ran a plantation for a wealthy Canadian and then on to Canada where he worked for a paper manufacturer in British Columbia.
