Hugh Douglas Clinch was the son of Arthur Howard Clinch born 1851 Witney, Oxfordshire and died 1933 Stow on the Wold, Gloucestershire (a Grain Merchant) and Julia Emma Cridland born 1850 Bristol, Gloucestershire and died 1888 Gloucestershire aged 38. They married 1877 Bristol, Gloucestershire and had 6 children. He was sometimes known as Douglas and was a Sergeant No. 9967 with the 49 (Montgomershire) Company 9th Battalion Imperial Yeomanry (Anglo-Boer War Records).
