Richard Green of Havercroft, Yorkshire and later of The Whitten, Lyonshall, Herefordshire was educated at Leeds Grammar School. He became a farmer and cattle breeder (the 1901 and 1911 Census show him farming 200 acres) and a stockbroker / financier. He was an Alderman of the County Council and High Sheriff in 1888. He is said to be buried under the shadow of the belfry at Lyonshall Church close to where one of his sons is buried.
