Nancy was said to be one of the original 'bright young things' of the London social scene. She moved to Paris at the end of the war, where she wrote several novels and conducted an affair with Charles de Gaulle's close associate, Gaston Palewski. The Pursuit of Love and Love in a Cold Climate contain fictionalised accounts of the family's lives.
