Phyllis' father was Francis Saxham Elwes Drury (1859-1942) and her mother was Mary Gertrude Peek (1861-1922) They had married in January 1884 at St. George, Hanover Square, London.
The difinitive source for Drury history has long been the 1937 book by Arthur Canpling, FSA., "The History of the Family of Drury in the counties of Suffolk and Norfolk From the Conquest." Campling, president of the British Society of Genealogists, was commissioned by Francis Saxham Elwes Drury to write the book, based on the assembled genealogical records of the Drurys.
F.S.E.Drury was the son of the Rev. Henry Drury, Archdeacon of Wilts, and the great grandson of the Rev. Joseph Drury, D.D. (1750-1834), headmaster of Harrow School and teacher of Lord Byron, who wrote of him later. His grandfather, Henry Thomas Joseph Drury (1778-1841) was assistant headmaster at the school for 41 years.
The Harrow School is said to have compiled an extensive Drury Pedigree during their presence at the school; presumably this information was part of the research which made up Campling's work.
Phyllis worked for the YMCA at 3rd Army Rest Camp from Nov. 1915 to Oct. 1918. Her mbe was gazetted on 15th March 1918
