Matilda was a daughter of Sir Henry Furnese 1st Baronet (1658-1712) of Waldershare in Kent. Their first son Henry died in infancy. Richard Edgcumbe (1716-1761) 2nd Baron Edgcumbe, died unmarried and George Edgcumbe (1720-1795) was 3rd Baron Edgcumbe and later 1st Earl of Mount Edgcumbe
