Frederick was appointed Junior Naval Lord in 1889, second Naval Lord in 1895 and knighted also in 1895. He was Commander-in-Chief, Cape of Good Hope and West Africa Station in 1892 and Commander-in-Chief North America and West Indies Station. He was at Admiralty House in Nova Scotia until 1902.
