Her father was 17th Earl of Erroll (1772-1819) married to Alicia (1775-1812). The Earls of Erroll are a well known family of the Scottish peerage. The 17th was succeeded by William George Hay (1801-1846) who was himself succeeded by the 19th Earl William Henry Hay (1823-1891). The 20th was Charles Gore Hay (1852-1927) succeeded by Victor Alexander Sereld Hay (1876-1928). Notoriety was achieved by the 22nd Earl Josslyn Victor Hay (1901-1941), a member of the British Union of Fascists known for the unsolved case surrounding his murder in Kenya as told in James Fox's White Mischief subsequently filmed in 1987.
