Jack's parents were William (or Hugh) Girvan and Ann Timms. Jack enlisted in March 1915 with A Company, 28th Battalion. He probably embarked for Europe in June 1915 or July 1916. Despite hard fighting and strenuous times he always wrote home cheerfully about the time when he would return.
