Robert was the eldest surviving son of James Case of Elmside, Surbiton, Surrey. He wanted to become a doctor, but his father made him go into the London Stock Exchange. As a result, he had a nervous breakdown and never did any work after that as he anticipated an inheritance from his father!
He died at Craybuie House, Kellin in Scotland.
