Robert was the only surviving son of John Aldridge (1766-1803) and his wife Anna Maria, daughter of Walter Smyth of Stopham, Sussex.
A letter donated to the Trust by Judith Rawlinson expresses the wish that the estate should pass to his son, Col. John and subsequently to his grandchildren. His wish was fulfilled.
