Hope was promoted to Commander on 30th June 1900. In July 1902 he was appointed in command of the light cruiser HMS Pioneer, which served in the Mediterranean Fleet. Promoted to Captain in 1905, Hope served in the First World War.
He was appointed Flag Captain to the Commander-in-Chief of the East Mediterranean Squadron, as well as Aide-de-Camp to the King, in 1915; Director of the Operations Division at the Admiralty in 1916; and Deputy First Sea Lord in 1918. He was present at the signing of the Armistice with Germany on 11th November 1918.
After the war, he was promoted to vice-admiral on 26th November 1920, and became Commander of the 3rd Light Cruiser Squadron. From 1923 he was President of the Royal Naval College, Greenwich.

Admiral Hope entered the Royal Navy in 1882 was promoted to Lieutenant in 1889, Commander 1900, Captain 1905, Rear Admiral 1917, Deputy First Sea Lord 1918, Vice Admiral 1920 and Admiral 1925. He was captain of HMS Good Hope from 1905-1907 and later was Inspector of Target Practice in 1907. Hope was attached to the RN War College in 1908. Later ships include HMS Magnificent, Bulwark and Queen Elizabeth (1913). He was Admiralty representative at the Armistice negotiations at Compiegne 1918. Between 1919-1921 he commanded 3rd LCS, Mediterranean Fleet. He was President of the RNC Greenwich from 1923-26 and retired in 1926. Admiral Hope was a Trustee of the NMM and Chairman of the SNR.
