The Colonel's family had for some generations owned and occupied Alstone Lawn, Cheltenham, a big estate on the Gloucester Road that is now covered with houses. Some years ago Col. de Sales La Terriere, who was a member of the King's Body Guard of Yeomen of the Guard, put the estate in the market and went to live at Burford Priory, and when that house was sold to Sir Archibald Southby Mrs de Sales la Terriere built a house at Minster Lovell.
The La Terriere family is representative of one of the oldest families of the ancient noblesse of France, that of de Sales, Comtes de Sales de St. Salvey, deBonneval en Albigeois, in the Province of Languedoc.
Extracted from the Gloucestershire Echo, 4th January 1940.
