George of Avoch, Scotland was the son of Captain John of Castle Leod and his wife, Geddes who was the daughter of his uncle, Simon Makenzie. Captain John bought the Avoch estate with money left him by his wife's brother, Admiral George Geddes Mackenzie.

Note: The different spellings of the surname are thought to be correct.
