Susan Jane Hennessy was the younger daughter of the Hon. Frederick Francis George Hennessy, MBE, of Harwood Lodge, Newbury, Berkshire.
She was educated at St Mary's, Ascot; was a debutante in 1956; and undertook a secretarial course; 1962-63. Between 1962 and 63, she worked as Charles's secretary at Sotheby's.
