David was educated at Rugby and Trinity College, Cambridge, admitted 12th January 1822.
David and Maria's grave is C46 1/2, Row 8 in the St. Michael's section of St. Sepulchre's Cemetery, Oxford. The Durell family lived at 7 New Inn Hall Street which is now the main entrance to St. Peter's College. This building was the former office of the Oxford Canal Company, built in 1797, that was no longer needed after Canal House in Bulwarks Lane opened in 1829.
