of Walhall, Hertfordshire. The Thellussons were an old Huguenot family who had fled France for Geneva after the Edict of Nantes was revoked. George was the second son of Peter Thellusson who had settled in London in 1750 and acquired a large fortune by trade, later becoming MP for Malmesbury.
George joined the family business, Peter Thellusson and Co., who acted for leading European commercial houses and traded with the West Indies.
