Maude was the eldest daughter of Sir Samuel Morton Peto, 1st Bart., MP, DL, JP, fornerly of Somerleyton Hall, Suffolk (sold 1861), but later of 9 Great George Street, London; as a widow, Maude rented Smedmore, South Dorset; then West Woodhay House, near Newbury; then Landford House, Salisbury. In 1905, she bought Burton Pynsent House, Curry Rivel, Taunton, Somerset. With advice from Harold Peto, Maude made some improvements to the garden and drive; she and her husband were both skilled water-colour artists. She is buried at Landford in Wiltshire.
