Montague when a bachelor, was in Canada as a farm labourer at Penstone Ranch, Merritt, British Columbia between 1911 and 1913. He married in 1919 and his 2 sons were born in 1921 and 1926. On 21st July 1927 the whole family sailed for Canada at the Canadian Government's expense and Montague went to work for Mr J G Thynne at Aspen Grove, Merritt, British Columbia.
