The baron died whilst playing billiards in the United Reform Club, London.
He was the son of Frederick Thesiger, 1st Baron Chelmsford born 25 04 1794 London and died 05 10, 1878 and Anne Marie Tinling born 24 12 1799 Southampton and died 09 04 1875 London. They married 09 03 1822 Southampton, Hampshire and had seven children. Frederick was a Conservative MP and was twice Lord Chancellor of Great Britain. He is said to have been a great favouite of Queen Victoria.
The Rt. Hon. General Frederick Augustus Thesiger was a British Imperial General who fought in the Anglo-Zulu war and suffered one of the severest defeats by native tribesmen in the history of the British Empire at the Battle of Isandlwana in 1879. He went on to defeat the Zulu Empire in the Battle of Ulundi.
