#8481, Thomas Heron JONES KCB

Thomas succeeded to the peerage in 1820 on the death of his father when he was just seven years old. He was also Baron Jones of Navan. Thomas was known for his involvement in the volunteer movement and as a notorious womaniser who introduced Lillie Langtree to London society. It is known that he fathered at least two illegitimate daughters, one being Alice, but no son so the titles became extinct on his death in 1885.

He accompanied the Duc de Nemours in the Belgian struggle for independence against the Netherlands, and was present with him at the siege of Antwerp. He took part in the first Carlist War. For a great many years, he had been Colonel of the 2nd South Middlesex Volunteers; and, outside London society, his name is only known in that capacity.
