Educated at Eton and Stanbridge School, Universite de Poitiers, La Sorbonne, Christopher Gibbs is an Antique Dealer of substantial reputation who is also a trustee of the Edward James Foundation; J Paul Getty Jr Charitable Trust; American Friends of the National Gallery; American School of Tangier, Morocco and Chairman of the Dorchester Abbey Preservation Trust.

A Thanksgiving Service will be held at St. James's, Piccadilly, London on Thursday 15th November 2018 at 3 pm.

A sale in 2022 at Chilham Castle carried the strap line "The Selected Contents from a Christopher Gibbs Interior."  The catalogue contained the following tribute:

THE GENIUS OF CHRISTOPHER GIBBS

Since 2002, the Castle has been home to the Wheeler family.  The late financier Stuart Wheeler and his wife Tessa, a photographer, were ardent champions of Chilham's history and legacy.  They lovingly restored many of its notable Jacobean features and created a wonderland of period furniture, objects and works of art with exceptional provenance and unmatched curatorial flare.  An enabling factor, of course, was due to the eye of their long-time friend and illustrious design impresario, Christopher Gibbs - the arbiter of bohemian country house style.  Together with Jane Ormsby-Gore and his partner, Peter Hinwood, he set about transforming Chilham from a foreboding country seat to a much loved and enjoyed family home.

An item in the Daily Telegraph of 26th September 2000 recorded that art and antiques from the Oxforshire country home (The Manor House, Clifton Hampden) of Christopher Gibbs, one of Britain's best-known fashion designers and antique dealers fetched almost £2.4 million on the first day of a two-day auction held by Christie's yesterday.  Mr Gibbs who is a close friend of the rock star Mick Jagger and who has designed interiors for some of Britain's most beautiful country houses is selling because he can no longer afford the upkeep of The Manor House.
