He served as Chaplain to the 4th Queensland Imperial Bushmen in the 1900-1902 Boer war. Later he served, again as Chaplain, to the 6th Queensland Imperial Bushmen; the Right Rev Webber, Bishop of Brisbane and, in WWI, to the 3rd Corps Headquarters (British).
