The 5th son of Sir Robert Eden, 3rd Baronet, Morton was educated at Eton and Christ Church, Oxford, was knighted in 1791 and created Baron Henley in 1799.
He served as Minister to Bavaria 1776-79; Copenhagen 1779-82; Dresden 1783-91; Berlin 1791-93; Vienna 1793-95. He was Anbassador to Spain 1794-95 and returned to Vienna 1794-99 before retiring. They had 4 children and he was succeeded by his eldest surviving son, Robert.
