It is with the greatest sorrow and regret that the inhabitants of this parish [Chittlehamholt] learnt of the death of Mrs. Pitman, wife of Colonel Pitman, now at Gibraltar, and daughter of Mr. T Farr of the Manor, which took place in London. The deceased lady, who had been in delicate health for a considerable time, had resided at the Manor with her father during the summer, and had greatly benefited in health. Whilst on a visit to London she contracted influenza, this being followed by pneumonia, to which, despite the best medical attention she succumbed. She was of a gentle retiring disposition, and loved by all with whom she came into contact. The interment took place on Wednesday December 11th in Chittlehamholt Churchyard, the service being conducted by the Vicar, the Rev. C H Garland. The mourners present were Miss Pitman (daughter), Mr. & Mrs. Bagot (brother-in-law and sister), Miss Pitman (sister-in-law), Capt. Miers (Tiverton, brother-in-law), Mr Wilfred Kelly (Tiverton, nephew), Lieut Patrick Butler (HMS Norseman), Mrs. Scott, Major Beaumont, and Mrs. Garland. Mr Farr (father) and Mr. Edmund Farr (brother) were both ill and unable to attend the funeral.
