Life Peer created UK 1983. Baron Peyton and his second wife Mary Wyndham had no children together.
Conservative MP for Yeovil for 32 years. John took up a commission in the 15/19 Hussars in 1939 on the outbreak of WW2. He was sent to France but was captured in Belgium in May 1940 and spent 5 years in German prisoner of war camps. He was liberated by American troops in late 1945.
He is buried in Somerset.
