Sophia's father was Rev. Samuel John Heathcote, Vicar of Williton, Somerset who had been born in Hampshire in 1824 and died at Williton in 1906. Her mother was Mary Sidney Smith born 1825 in Worcestershire who died at Williton in 1889. They had been married at Tenbury, Worcesershire in 1846.
